Luka Doncic has become one of the best basketball players in the world. The Dallas Mavericks superstar is arguably more valuable to their franchise than anyone else in the NBA.
Despite Doncic’s great talent, many skeptics were raised against him when he first entered the league.
Jeff Teague told a story about his Podcast Club 520 He recently said that at first he didn’t believe it and had to be convinced that Doncic was actually a serious guy. He considered Doncic “lazy” and didn’t think he was “doing enough” to be considered one of the best.
Doncic proved him wrong.
James Johnson is another former NBA player who I didn’t see the hypeGoran Dragic, who has a close relationship with Doncic, told Johnson that Doncic “will be the best player one day” when they were teammates on the Miami Heat.
“I’m like, yeah, that’s right. How big is he?” Johnson said on the OG Show“I think Rick (Carlisle) had him at four at the time. He didn’t have a good game at four. We talked to (Dragic) again; I thought you said your guy was nice. He said he just wasn’t playing the right position.”
It’s understandable that even NBA players initially underestimated Doncic’s talent. He played overseas, so they didn’t see much of him, and he’s not extremely athletic. It takes time to fully appreciate Doncic’s greatness, but once you see it, his talent is undeniable.
