Kusakabe has a controversial moment in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 269 when he reveals that he agreed with Yuji’s execution, leaving fans divided on his character.
The end of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga is almost here. Besides the upcoming chapter 269, which will be released on September 15, 2024, there are still two chapters left in the series before its end on September 30.
In the middle of the epilogue, we learn about the jujutsu sorcerers’ plan to defeat Sukuna. In chapter 269, during a discussion between the sorcerers, Kusakabe reveals how he supported the higher-ups’ plan to execute Yuji in the beginning.
Since Yuji was Sukuna’s vessel, he thought it would be prudent to kill him before he became a threat. He didn’t do this just because of Yaga. Kusakabe also blamed Gojo for not killing Yuji on the first day.
This scene was not well received by many readers. Many criticized Kusakabe for agreeing to kill a minor. Some blamed him for denigrating Gojo when the late wizard only wanted to protect a child.
“Kusakabe saying “It’s Gojo’s fault for not killing Yuji sooner” is so unreal to me. Like, is this the man we’re supposed to believe is kind sjsbsjsh,” published a user on X.
“Kusakabe blames Gojo for not killing Yuji, oh my god when we get you,” wrote another.
However, many readers also pointed out that killing Yuji would have saved many lives, and Kusakabe only agreed to the execution for the greater good.
Like a common“I know Kusakabe was tough here, but I like his honesty and the way he told the kids not to feel sorry for themselves. I love him for that.”
“He foresaw the Shibuya massacre and thought it prudent to nip that danger in the bud. It is not cruel to have been placed in the tram problem,” joined another.
While fans are debating about Kusakabe, they are also hoping that Gojo will return in the next chapter. Whether he will actually return remains to be seen.
