The San Francisco 49ers have certainly been active throughout the summer.
San Francisco had to make some moves after losing the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs and is in a good spot right now, despite superstar running back Christian McCaffrey currently on injured reserve.
The 49ers have been active and fortunately have been able to retain all of their stars. There was a time when that didn’t seem possible.
It looked like the 49ers were going to trade star receiver Brandon Aiyuk at one point, but thankfully they got him on a new deal. San Francisco looked elsewhere for help. One of the players the 49ers targeted was Las Vegas Raiders receiver Jakobi Meyers, according to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle.
“I have since learned from sources inside and outside the building that the 49ers have reached out to numerous other teams in an attempt to find a replacement for Aiyuk, sometimes exploring trades with much lower draft value,” Silver said. “For example, the Raiders, who are expected to be receptive to stockpiling picks in anticipation of positioning themselves to draft a quarterback next spring, have been approached about trading starting receiver Jakobi Meyers. The Raiders have rebuffed overtures from San Francisco for the sixth-year veteran, who has 71 catches for 807 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023.”
Meyers is one of the Raiders’ most important offensive players and would have been a good fit for San Francisco, but it’s a good thing they kept Aiyuk instead.
