Some Canva subscription prices are set to increase by 300%, the design software company announced, citing the need to cover the costs of new AI features.
Canva has informed international Canva Teams customers of higher subscription prices, attributing them to the need to invest more in the software, including the introduction of AI-powered design tools.
Some Canva Teams users in the US are seeing their subscription costs jump from $120 per year for up to five users, to $500 per year. There’s a 40% discount for the first year, bringing the price down to $300.
In Australia, the monthly rate of AUD 39.99 (USD 26) for five users increases to AUD 40.50 for one user, according to The Information AgeThis means that a team of five will go from earning AUD$480 (USD$323) per year to AUD$2,430 (USD$1,636).
No price changes have been announced for other subscription tiers for Pro and Enterprise users. Jugo Mobile asked for clarification as to whether these levels will be impacted.
Canva said The Verge that the increase is due to the “expanded product experience” and the value that generative AI tools have added to the platform.
“Our product line has grown significantly over the past few years with the launch of new offerings such as Visual Suite and Magic Studio,” Louisa Green, Canva’s head of communications, said in a statement.
The sharp price increase comes as Canva prepares for a potential IPO in 2026. The company will hold its IPO in the United States and was valued at $37.8 billion in its last funding round.
While Canva has embraced AI, design software companies like Procreate have openly stated that they will never go down that path. In a video on X/Twitter, Procreate CEO James Cuda was blunt in his announcement: “I really hate generative AI.”
