After losing in the NBA Finals, the Dallas Mavericks brought reinforcements this offseason in the form of Klay Thompson. A former teammate of Thompson’s from the Warriors’ championship days believes the move makes the Mavericks the team to beat in the Western Conference.
“I would say the Mavs, with Klay Thompson on the team, are going to be the best team in the West. I know the Minnesota Timberwolves and OKC Thunder will have a lot to say about that, but by adding Klay Thompson to the team, you’re kind of trading defense for more shooting.” said Festus Ezeli.
In his prime, Thompson was an All-NBA defender. He’s not the same player at that level after knee and Achilles surgery. However, he remains an NBA elite shooter and a player with a long championship pedigree.
Thompson brings to Dallas a resume that includes four NBA titles, a 73-win season and 158 career playoff games. There aren’t many players in the league with as much winning experience as Thompson.

Thompson is the perfect fit and he won’t step on anyone’s toes. His value to the team will go far beyond what he brings on the field.
“In the locker room, Klay Thompson was a huge morale booster because of his ease of maintenance.” Ezeli said.
Dallas may have found a way to sign one of the best shooters in the history of the game. With Thompson, Ezeli’s comments that the Mavericks are the best team in the conference may well come to fruition.
