Olympic tennis champions, Grand Slam tournament winners and sports stars will gather in Berlin for the Laver Cup 2024 in a showdown between Team World and Team Europe.
Named after tennis legend Rod Laver and the brainchild of Roger Federer, the seventh edition of the Laver Cup features Europe’s top players competing against other global stars.
Despite Rafael Nadal’s late withdrawal, Team Europe boasts a strong squad including Wimbledon and 2024 French Open winner Carlos Alcaraz, new world No. 2 Alexander Zverev and 2024 US Open quarter-finalist Grigor Dimitrov. The team is led by captain and six-time French Open champion Bjorn Borg.
Seven-time Grand Slam champion John McEnroe will captain the defending champion Team World, which features several American stars. Taylor Fritz, who is fresh off a U.S. Open final, Frances Tiafoe, making her fifth Laver Cup appearance, and Ben Shelton, who earned six of Team World’s 13 points last year, are among the team’s members.

The Laver Cup Format Explained
The Laver Cup is a team event in which the best tennis players in Europe compete against the best from the rest of the world, with the winner being the first team to reach 13 points.
How do you get these points? With victories in matches.
Each day, three singles matches and one doubles match are played, best of three sets, the last one being played as a 10-point tiebreaker.
Friday’s wins are worth one point, Saturday’s two points and Sunday’s three points, ensuring that no team can become champion before the final day.
All players play at least one singles match between Friday and Saturday and at least four of them participate in doubles.
In the event that only one match is required on Sunday, an exhibition match will be played after the trophy ceremony.

Team Europe had won all four editions of the Laver Cup until Team World won the 2022 and 2023 editions.
