Manchester City’s new Oasis-inspired kit caused confusion during the 0-0 Champions League draw with Inter Milan, with defender Manuel Akanji admitting he mistakenly passed the ball to the linesman! Yes, you read that right: Akanji thought the referee was his teammate Bernardo Silva.
The fourth kit, designed to celebrate Oasis’ 30th anniversary and the band’s deep connection to Manchester, made its debut at the Etihad in City’s first Champions League game of the season.
Although the ‘Definitely City’ kit is a nod to legendary Manchester band Oasis, it seems the strikingly similar colours make it a little too difficult to tell team-mates and officials apart.

“But one action confused me: I thought the referee on the sidelines was Bernardo, so I passed the ball to him. Otherwise, I love this jersey and I’m looking forward to playing more in it.”
Despite the confusion, City fans are excited about the unique kit, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of Oasis’ debut album, Definitely Maybe.
Noel Gallagher, one of the Gallagher brothers who lead the band, expressed his excitement about collaborating with Puma. “It’s a real honour,” he said. “When Puma contacted us, it took me about five seconds to say yes.”
The ‘Definitely City’ kit will only be worn in select Champions League games, so expect City’s stars to be back in their iconic sky blue for their Premier League clash against Arsenal on Sunday.
