The Cincinnati Bengals have been cut from wide receiver Tee Higgins to begin the 2024 season.
Starting the season 0-2 is never ideal given the implications for a playoff run, but it’s not impossible for the Bengals to bounce back into the playoff race.
Ahead of the Disastrous defeat of week 1 Against the New England Patriots at Paycor Stadium, Higgins was added to the injury report with a hamstring injury after Thursday’s practice.
After not practicing Friday in Week 1, Higgins was listed as doubtful and was ultimately inactive for the game.
For the Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the 25-year-old receiver did not practice at all. However, he did follow his usual pregame workout routine, which was an encouraging step.
The former second-round pick has dealt with injuries throughout his career with the Bengals and the 2023 season was the first time he missed a significant portion of games — including three due to a hamstring injury.
Ahead of the Week 3 matchup against the Washington Commanders, we’re tracking the latest updates on Higgins’ injury status.
Tee Higgins injury update
Coach Zac Taylor said Saturday that Higgins was “ready to make” his season debut Monday against the Commanders.
For the first training of the week, Higgins was on the field for the first time since injuring his hamstring in practice in Week 1.
Thursday’s training report will give us a better idea of his status heading into the weekend.
Having an extra day off should help Higgins, provided he doesn’t suffer any setbacks. It’s likely he’ll have to train at least once in his life before he returns to the field.
The Bengals’ offense rebounded nicely in Week 2, but having Higgins on the field makes a major difference for Joe Burrow and the passing attack.
