Real Madrid will continue their efforts to keep pace with an in-form Barcelona when they host Deportivo Alaves in La Liga on Tuesday.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men made it four wins in a row in all competitions with a 4-1 victory over Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabeu last weekend. But Barca have taken flight, winning six of their six games and leading the table by four points.

Ancelotti will have to be careful to use his resources wisely in midweek. Real Madrid’s injury list has thinned slightly, particularly in midfield with Jude Bellingham and Aurelien Tchouameni starting each of the last two games. However, there is the small matter of a cross-town derby against Atletico Madrid on Sunday looming.

If the Derbi fail to focus on the game, Alavés could be well placed to take advantage after a rather impressive start to the season. Luis Garcia Plaza’s men sit seventh after claiming a third win in their first six games against Sevilla last time out.
