The Upper Moon Four Hantengu creates powerful clones with various abilities that prove to be some of the most difficult battles in Demon Slayer’s Swordsmith Village arc.
Demon Slayer Season 3 showed us the formidable powers of the Upper Moon Four Hantengu. Although Muichiro defeated Gyokko, Hantengu still gives the Demon Slayer Corps a hard time.
He fights using the many clones he manifests from his emotions. He has seven personalities: Hantengu, Sekido, Karaku, Aizetsu, Urogi, Zohakuten, and Urami. Each has different abilities and they are all extremely strong.
Given that they come from an Upper Moon Four, these clones cannot be defeated easily. It takes the combined strength of Tanjiro, Genya, Mitsuri, and Nezuko to defeat this monster, and we break down all the different forms of Upper Moon Four Hantengu in the anime here.
Hantengu: The Manifestation of Cowardice

Upper Moon Hantengu’s primary personality form is one of intense cowardice and anxiety. He exhibits paranoid, terrified, and delusional characteristics and is easily alarmed by what is happening around him. He constantly displays screams of fear in response to even the most trivial events.
This form allows Hantengu to manifest his emotions and make them appear as younger versions of himself through his Blood Demon Art. A kanji on each clone’s tongue denotes the primary emotion they embody.
These clones, each with a unique appearance, skill set, and arsenal, all have at least one higher caliber of strength and all appear to be younger versions of Hantengu. When Hantengu’s head is severed, his Blood Demon Art is triggered and Hantengu’s body and head split into two identical clones: one that personifies rage and one that personifies joy.
Sekido: The manifestation of anger

Sekido is the manifestation of Upper Moon Hantengu’s anger, and as such, he portrays emotions of constant vexation, irritation, and rage, even towards his fellow clones. He was easily enraged when the clones failed to meet his expectations and were defeated by the Demon Slayers.
Sekido’s demonic art, “Electricity Generation”, allows him to generate electricity that flashes blue and red. He plants his Khakkhara into the surface to activate this power, usually the ground. His electricity is so powerful that it paralyzes his targets in an instant, even if they are in mid-air, and renders them unconscious within seconds.
His Blood Demon Art has a wide area of effect, allowing him to eliminate multiple opponents simultaneously. Sekido also has the ability to attract and absorb the bodies of Karaku, Urogi, and Aizetsu, merging them to become Zohakuten.
Karaku: The Manifestation of Pleasure

As the embodiment of Upper Moon Hantengu’s fun, Karaku demonstrates his carefree and laid-back nature. While fighting them, he continually complimented Genya, Tanjiro, and Nezuko, treating it more like a game than anything else.
Karaku’s Bloodthirsty Demonic Art, “Wind Blasts”, allows him to generate powerful gusts of wind using his Maple Leaf-shaped Uchiha. Karaku can create a gust of wind powerful enough to render Muichiro instantly unconscious, cause massive craters, destroy an entire building, and crush Demon Slayers and Demons under its enormous pressure by simply swinging his Uchiha downward.
By strategically using his Blood Demon Art, he can strike the entire battlefield with powerful gusts of wind, making it difficult for his opponents to move, as if they were in a tornado. However, Nezuko proves that this ability can be used against him by anyone who possesses their Uchiha.
Aizetsu: The Manifestation of Grief

As a manifestation of Upper Moon Hantengu’s grief, Aizetsu portrays discouragement and negative emotions, constantly describing everything as depressing. Out of all the manifestations, he is the calmest as he analyzes his opponents and thinks about his strategy against them instead of bickering with the other clones.
Aizetsu has some degree of control over the ability to change his flesh, like all demons. With this ability, Aizetsu can transform his flesh into Jumonji Yari, a cross-shaped spear.
His Blood Demon Art, “Spear Projection”, allows him to project his Yari’s thrust attack great distances, allowing him to attack his targets from a distance. Aizetsu was unfazed when Genya used a shotgun that fired Nichirin Steel Balls to break his neck. He even managed to attack while keeping his head intact and easily repairing his neck.
Urogi: The manifestation of joy

Urogi is the most cheerful of the Upper Moon Hantengu clones as he embodies Hantengu’s joy. Much like Karaku, Urogi seems to view the entire battle with the Demon Slayers as nothing more than a game or form of entertainment.
Urogi’s unique physiology allows him to gain bird-like characteristics and abilities, including enormous feathered wings and extremely sharp claws. His enormous wings allow him to fly at incredible speeds, and his talons are strong enough to cut through diamonds.
Urogi’s Blood Demon Art, “Sonic Scream”, allows him to generate powerful sonic waves from his mouth. Urogi’s scream has enough power to temporarily knock Tanjiro unconscious, causing him to bleed from his nose and ear.
Zohakuten: The Manifestation of Hate

Zohakuten was created by Sekido by consuming the other clones, so they both share similar personality traits. He is the most powerful of all the Upper Moon Hantengu clones. He was incredibly rude, much like Sekido, as shown by the constant insults he hurled at his opponents.
Of all the clones, he is also the most intelligent and perceptive, aside from Sekido. Zohakuten’s primary Demonic Art, “Wood Manipulation”, allows him to manipulate and alter the wood of the flora around him. This ability is triggered by tapping one of the many drums on his back.
Wood manipulation is suited for both long and short range combat. Through the combination of Sekido, Karaku, Aizetsu, and Urogi, Zohakuten is able to utilize the bloodthirsty demonic arts of his four clones to a significantly greater degree. Not only can he use these abilities, but he can also transfer them to the wood dragon he created.
Urami: The Manifestation of Resentment

As a manifestation of Hantengu’s resentment, Urami is just as hypocritical and delusional as Zohakuten and Hantengu. He describes himself as weak and innocent, while blaming Tanjiro for not seeing his innocence.
Urami resents the fact that he was punished and persecuted for crimes he was “innocent” of. He has the power to greatly increase his size, allowing Hantengu to hide inside him in a last ditch effort to escape the Demon Slayers.
Urami’s Blood Demon Art, “Ability Combination”, allows her to use the other clone’s Blood Demon Arts. Although not mentioned, Urami used Urogi’s Sonic Scream ability to stun Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Genya.
