Liverpool boss Arne Slot has hinted at big changes ahead of the Carabao Cup clash against West Ham, with Federico Chiesa potentially making his first start in red.
However, the Italian winger will not play the full 90 minutes as he is still building up his fitness.
Squad rotation predicted for Liverpool vs West Ham
Slot, keen to keep his squad fresh amid a busy schedule, confirmed several players are expected to make the starting XI.
Before the game, he said: “We will play with the best team possible, and that may also mean that I will select different players.” He mentioned Chiesa, as well as Curtis Jones, Cody Gakpo, Wataru Endo and Jarell Quansah, as potential starters.
Chiesa, who made two appearances off the bench under Slot, is expected to start the game but not finish it. “I don’t think Chiesa is ready for 90 minutes, but he is capable of starting,” Slot revealed, giving Liverpool fans a reason to be excited to see their summer signing in action.
Alisson’s fitness worries Slot
Caoimhin Kelleher will be in goal for the West Ham game as Alisson Becker continues his recovery. It is not yet known whether Alisson will be fit for the weekend clash against Wolves, making Kelleher’s role even more crucial.
Liverpool’s defence could also welcome some new faces, with Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas all likely to start. Youngster Trey Nyoni or Tyler Morton could join Wataru Endo and Curtis Jones in midfield, providing much-needed energy and depth.
With the support of the home crowd and the ability to rotate key players, Slot will likely make some smart changes while hoping Liverpool come out on top. A win would keep the Reds in contention, while resting the stars for the bigger battles ahead.
