If the Miami Heat decide it’s time to dismantle their roster, management has plenty of talent to trade for a superstar in return.
In a recent article According to Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, the Miami Heat’s top options for a trade are Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., or Nikola Jovic. In doing so, they would have enough firepower to find a sidekick for Bam Adebayo (and Jimmy Butler). Making a trade could be tricky due to the collective bargaining agreement’s restrictions on high-payroll teams. However, Miami is still below the second apron, which gives them some wiggle room.
Of the three, Herro has the highest salary after signing a four-year, $120 million contract with the Heat in 2023. In the 2024-25 season, he is set to make $29 million, an amount that should allow them to target several stars. However, since they are above the first apron, they cannot recoup more than 100 percent of the salary they paid.
Moving forward, the list of players Miami could target includes Sacramento Kings forward DeMar DeRozan, Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges, Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma, Toronto Raptors forward RJ Barrett and Detroit Pistons forward Tobias Harris — all of whom would pair well with Adebayo.
Of those players, DeRozan is perhaps the most alluring. Not only is he a six-time All-Star, but the Heat courted him in free agency. As an elite scorer, he’s the type of player who raises the ceiling and makes Miami a true playoff contender.
While DeRozan’s power outshines all of the Heat players mentioned above, there are legitimate questions about his fit in Sacramento due to his issues from beyond the arc — something Herro doesn’t. The 24-year-old is a 38.5 percent 3-point shooter and is arguably Miami’s best weapon from the three-point line.
Either way, Herro would have a big impact on the Kings roster and DeRozan would do the same for Miami. Ultimately, it’s a win-win situation.
