For ESPN analyst and former NBA player Chandler Parsons, Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum is his favorite to win Most Valuable Player. Tatum has been in the race multiple times, but has never won.
“They’re still hating on him, making him seem like he’s an issue and he’s not that guy,” said Parsons. “I think Tatum has the biggest year of his career this year and I think the Boston Celtics win it all and I think he’s the MVP.”
In his seven years in the NBA, Tatum has been in the MVP race and finished with votes four times, and never has gotten higher than fourth place. However, his past three years have led to the highest possibility of getting the award.
Tatum has been on the past three first team All-NBA, and for the second year in a row, has been voted the best small forward in the league by NBA general managers.
Tatum seems to have also fixed a crucial part of his game, his jump shot. It received a lot of criticism in the playoffs and NBA Finals of last year, but it seems to have been fixed.
With his fixed jumper, Tatum has now opened up new ways of scoring, as defenses need to try and stop his game at all three levels; inside, mid-range, and deep, all while watching where he passes to, as he has become an elite playmaker.
With all these skills combined, his past accolades, and his ability to lead the team, Tatum definitely could be a frontrunner for the MVP.
