Many an onlooker could not help but notice something about Arsenal’s third goal in the impressive 5-1 Champions League victory at Sporting CP.
Of course, a big three points away to Ruben Amorim’s formidable former side is good news by itself, but Gabriel Magalhães’ reaction to putting his side three goals up on the stroke of half-time may carry a clue to even more reason for Gooners worldwide to be excited.
The Brazilian opted to seemingly mimic the trademark goal celebration of Sporting forward Viktor Gyokeres, who is high on the January shopping list of many top European clubs, including Mikel Arteta’s side.
Bukayo Saka then appeared to do similar as he joined the defender in his goal celebration.
Whether both were paying tribute to the celebration or not, Gyokeres himself responded to the Brazilian’s post-goal actions and his reply made it clear that the whole thing was not in bad blood.
“He’s welcome to steal it if he can’t create his own celebration!” Gyokeres joked during a post-match interview.
“I didn’t know he did that, but it’s fun that he likes my celebration.”
So, if two Arsenal players made a point of using the Gyokeres celebration, had no obvious reason to do so in malice, and the striker himself is seeing the funny side, does this mean what we think it may mean?

Of course, the Gunners would stand to benefit greatly if they win the race for the in-form goal machine.
Their former player William Gallas thinks a more potent replacement for Kai Havertz up top is what will make them title contenders once more, and our very own Joe Wright has a solid theory on why the London club has an advantage over other suitors.
So, do Gabriel, Saka, Gyokeres and perhaps others know something we do not? Has the subtle courtship already begun? Can we interpret this as mutual interest in what could happen just over a month from now?
If so, Arsenal fans have more than just a big win in Europe to celebrate.

Gyokeres interlocks his fingers to cover his mouth, a la Bane from Batman lore – something he has alluded to in prior interviews.
As football.london have noted, however, the celebration was not very accurately ripped by Gabriel and Saka.
Whether the modification to the celebration was for a particular reason or not, we have no idea. And, for the time being, we’ve already read between the lines enough as it is!
