Tottenham Hotspur has been dealt a major setback as goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario faces months on the sidelines after fracturing his ankle during last week’s 4-0 win over Manchester City.
Despite the injury, the 28-year-old finished the match, making crucial saves in the second half.
Manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed the severity of the injury on Wednesday, calling it a “big blow” for the team.
“It’s not going to be weeks; it’s going to be months,” he said.
Postecoglou praised Vicario’s toughness, noting how he played through the pain. “The fact he performed at that level with a fractured ankle was quite outstanding,” he added.

Vicario, who hasn’t missed a minute of Premier League action since joining Spurs in 2023, will now be replaced by backup keeper Fraser Forster.
Postecoglou expressed confidence in Forster, who has already featured in cup and European matches this season. “There’s a reason we have Fraser in the squad. He’s ready to go,” the manager said.
The gaffer’s quotes poured cold water on suggestions the Londoners would look to sign another shot stopper in the January transfer window, though a lot can change between now and the new year.

The goalkeeper took to Instagram from his hospital bed, sharing his determination to return.
“I played 60 minutes at the Etihad with a broken bone in my ankle, giving everything for the team,” he wrote.
Vicario thanked fans for their support and promised to come back “stronger, fitter, and ready to give my all again.”
