The Lions may be 11-1 and on their way to another playoff spot, but some insider information could give teams a new advantage against Dan Campbell’s talented squad.

Running back Jahmyr Gibbs posted a picture of his teammate, Jermar Jefferson, to social media recently. However, he might not have noticed what was in the background.

The photo Gibbs posted had a white board in the background detailing team play calls. Although Gibbs has since deleted the post, it remained up across social media as football fans questioned how he never noticed the information he was leaking.

Here’s a look at the accidental play call leak from Gibbs’ post, plus what Campbell had to say about it afterward.

Jahmyr Gibbs’ Instagram post, explained

Gibbs posted a photo of Jefferson, with a white board detailing “Dropback Protections” in the background.

The Lions’ offense has been elite this season, currently ranking second in the NFL in total yards per game (395.2) and first in points per game (31.9). However, the leak could result in Detroit switching up some of its play calls.

Gibbs is well on his way to his first career 1,000-yard rushing season, currently with 973 rushing yards through 12 games played.

What did Dan Campbell say about Jahmyr Gibbs leaking Lions play calls?

Campbell was asked about Gibbs leaking play calls through social media. The coach responded by saying he doesn’t “really give a crap.”

“If we’re gonna lose because of code words, then we’re not good enough anyway. I think we’ll just post the whole freaking playbook and every code word we’ve got,” Campbell said. “It doesn’t matter. It’s not gonna hurt us.”

That marked a change from the weekend, when Campbell seemed concerned about the post. When the news was initially brought to Campbell, he was unaware of Gibbs’ post. That may have led to Campbell taking a guarded approach at first. After some time passed, Campbell took a different path.

As the Lions make a run at the NFC’s No. 1 seed, Campbell seems unconcerned with any play call leaks. He may not actually leak the “whole freaking playbook,” but the Lions have been hard enough to slow down that teams will be grasping for any advantages they possibly can.

Detroit will conclude its 2024 regular season with matchups against the Packers, Bills, Bears, 49ers and Vikings.
