The Indianapolis Colts saw their season evaporate last week and now the rumblings of change are beginning to filter through.
While it remains to be seen how the Colts will go about the offseason, the utterly embarrassing loss against the New York Giants in Week 17 has warmed the seat of general manager Chris Ballard.
Officially eliminated from playoff contention after allowing the Giants to score 45 points on Gus Bradley’s defense, the Colts need to make changes.
Whether that leads to executives and coaches losing jobs isn’t clear, but Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported “there have been at least murmurs of front-office shuffling” in Indy.
Again, that’s a pretty open-ended notion. Shuffling could mean anything from cleaning house to moving Ballard into a role other than general manager.
Either way, change needs to be made. This Colts team continues to fall flat late in the season in games they should win handily.
Overhauling the front office likely means the coaching staff is out as well. It’s not a guarantee but when a new general manager arrives, it typically means a new head coach is in as well.
That also would raise the question about Anthony Richardson’s future, especially after he’s missed 16 of a possible 33 games to begin his career.
It should make for another interesting offseason for the Colts as Jim Irsay’s decision will have a massive impact on the direction of the franchise.
