The Minnesota Timberwolves are in danger of missing the playoffs a season after getting to the Western Conference Finals.
Anthony Edwards‘ performance has taken a hit, and if things don’t improve, both parties may need to go their own separate ways. The Timberwolves could send Edwards to a future Western Conference powerhouse to form one of the league’s next greatest duos.
To make the San Antonio Spurs even stronger, they can loop in the Atlanta Hawks to pull off a mind-boggling three-team trade that would give the NBA another Big 3.
The Hawks may feel an urgency to trade with the Spurs because San Antonio owns Atlanta’s first-round draft picks from 2025-2027.
Atlanta may look to send Trae Young to the Alamo City to reacquire some control of their future, as the Spurs could send at least two of the Hawks’ picks back to them. San Antonio would send Stephon Castle back to his native Georgia, Keldon Johnson, and Zach Collins to make the deal work financially.
The Spurs could then send Harrison Barnes, Tre Jones, and any combination of their own first-round picks up until 2031, the Chicago Bulls’ 2025 top 10 protected selection, the Charlotte Hornets’ lottery-protected 2025 pick, the Toronto Raptors’ 2026 pick protected 1-6, the Boston Celtics’ 2028 pick which only protects the first pick, the Dallas Mavericks’ 2030 first-round pick, the Sacramento Kings’ 2031 first-round pick, and most importantly, Minnesota’s first-round picks in 2030 and 2031 to the Timberwolves.
David Roddy would be sent to San Antonio, and Garrison Mathews would go to Minnesota.
San Antonio would be sending a lot of picks, but with Victor Wembanyama providing MVP-caliber production at less than $20 million per year until 2027 and several valuable role players under very team-friendly deals, now could be the time for them to go big and acquire two superstars.
Meanwhile, the Timberwolves will have a treasure trove of first-round picks to play with as they enter a rebuild.
