Life has been pretty good for the Chicago Bulls of late. The NBA Playoffs are rapidly approaching. For the Bulls, a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament awaits them. There should be ample reason to believe they can actually secure a spot in the postseason with a couple of wins, and further prove they made the right move at this year’s NBA trade deadline.

The Bulls helped facilitate the De’Aaron Fox deal for the San Antonio Spurs and Sacramento Kings. They managed to finally unload Zach LaVine and his massive contract on the Kings.

LaVine was actually having a strong 2024-25 campaign. This season, the former dunk contest winner was averaging 24.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, an 4.5 assists per game with the Bulls, while scoring at efficient clips of 51.1 percent from the field and 44.6 percent from beyond the arc.

All Chicago got back for LaVine and some second-round draft capital was Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, and their own 2025 first-round selection. Some thought that was not enough of a return for the former Bulls star.

However, one thing has been very clear in recent weeks: the Bulls are trending in the right direction while the Kings are plummeting in the other end.

Chicago has a record of 10-5 over their last 15 games, marching confidently towards the Play-In. Sacramento is barely holding on to the 10th spot in the Western Conference, with the Phoenix Suns right on their heels, after going 4-11 in their last 15.

Trading away LaVine has allowed other members of the Bulls to thrive in new, expanded roles on the team. The old expression goes, ‘sometimes less is more.’ In the case of this trade, that has proven to be true for Chicago. They comfortably look like the winners, at least between themselves and the Kings, in this deal.
