There’s no doubt that Spotify is the leading music streaming service in its sector, with its vast library and personalized recommendations. However, if there’s one thing that its users have longed for, it’s support for lossless audio. Having teased it four years ago, it appears that the wait for hi-fi audio will finally be over this year as Spotify is planning to debut it with the upcoming “Music Pro” plan.
According to Bloomberg, Spotify is preparing to announce a new Premium subscription plan, labeled “Music Pro”. This tier will bring the much-anticipated Hi-Fi quality audio support to users along with other features. These could include early access or exclusive deals on concert tickets, as well as a new “remixing tool”. The latter could be an AI-powered feature that lets you mix two or more songs from multiple artists.
The Music Pro tier may not come as a standalone plan, but may be introduced as a way to top up over your existing Spotify Premium subscription. The report indicates that this tier may cost users an additional $5.99 per month over their current plan. This means, if you’re subscribed to the Premium Individual plan at $11.99, you may end up paying $17.99 to add the Music Pro add-on to your subscription.
In contrast, Apple Music’s Individual plan only costs $10.99 per month. And it includes access to both Lossless and Hi-Res Lossless music. There’s currently no information on what kind of Hi-Fi quality will Spotify provide with its Music Pro plan. Back when it was first announced, the platform had promised CD-quality, i.e., 44.1 kHz Lossless. But we hope that’s not it, and we get to see support for Hi-Res Lossless music as well.
