Arne Slot is expected to make changes to his Liverpool squad this summer.

The Dutch boss is closing in on a Premier League title to cap off a superb debut campaign in charge at Anfield but he is already looking forward to 2025/26.

The latest update indicates defender Trent Alexander-Arnold will complete a free transfer to Real Madrid when his contract expires in June with Slot tracking options to come in at right-back.

Club captain Virgil van Dijk and talisman Mohamed Salah are rumoured to be closing in on two-year extensions to their own expiring contracts.

Retaining Van Dijk and Salah is a major win for Slot – but exits are expected from the red side of Merseyside – with Caoimhin Kelleher and Darwin Nunez both in the frame to leave.

Slot has a core group of players he wants to keep, with Dutch international Ryan Gravenberch a key part of that, but his agent believes a future move to join Alexander-Arnold in Madrid is an option.

Is Ryan Gravenberch leaving Liverpool?

Liverpool fans will be taken aback by the latest revelation on Gravenberch’s status but his representative Jose Fortes believes the Reds hierarchy would price him out of an exit.

“He’s good enough for Real Madrid. We’d love him to play for them, but Liverpool would ask for a lot of money,” as per reports from Marca.

“I know they’ve had their eye on him, but right now, it’s impossible.”

Gravenberch’s current Liverpool contract runs until 2028, and based on his impressive form under Slot, the club value him at around £60m [$77.5m].

Ryan Gravenberch key stats in 2024/25

No player in Slot’s squad has seen a greater increase in playing time from the final year of Jurgen Klopp to this season than Gravenberch.

After falling short in their summer pursuit of Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, Slot stuck by Gravenberch, as Liverpool moved away from Klopp’s preferred 4-3-3 system.

Slot has utilised Gravenberch in a double-pivot in midfield, alongside Alexis Mac Allister, with Dominik Szoboszlai advanced in a 4-2-3-1 system..

Ryan Gravenberch of Liverpool

Gravenberch started just 12 EPL games in 2023/24, after joining from Bayern Munich, and he is on course to triple that figure before the end of the current campaign.

Only three players have started all 31 of Liverpool’s EPL games this season – Gravenberch, Van Dijk and Salah.

Despite failing to score a goal in any competition so far in 2024/25, Slot’s faith is clear, and Gravenberch has excelled with the new responsibility.

He is currently No.1 across all position for Premier League in-play interceptions [53] with only Van Dijk and Salah playing more EPL minutes than him at Liverpool this season.
