The Seahawks’ offense has undergone plenty of change since the end of the 2024 season, from the signing of Sam Darnold to the trade of DK Metcalf and the dismissal of OC Ryan Grubb. Seattle had one more move in its arsenal before training camp.
The Seahawks released tight end Noah Fant on Sunday, cutting the former Broncos first-round pick more than three years after landing him in the Russell Wilson trade.
Fant never exceeded 500 yards in his three seasons in Seattle and only scored one touchdown over his final two campaigns with the team. In a new era with a new offensive coordinator in Klint Kubiak, the franchise decided to save nearly $9 million and move forward with younger options at the tight end position.

1. AJ Barner
Barner is far from guaranteed to start in Seattle, but he figures to at least open training camp in position for the largest role after starting six games as a rookie. The former fourth-round pick out of Michigan posted 245 yards and four touchdowns on 30 catches in 2024, averaging only 8.2 yards per catch but finding the end zone at a high rate with his 6-6 frame.
2. Elijah Arroyo
Barner should be expected to face a serious challenge from second-round rookie Elijah Arroyo, who was drafted out of Miami in April. Arroyo played a limited role over his first three seasons with the Hurricanes but broke through in 2024, posting 590 yards and 11 touchdowns on only 35 catches with Cam Ward as his quarterback. The Seahawks drafted Arroyo knowing he could become a long-term starter, and Fant’s release should give him that opportunity sooner rather than later given his high upside.
3. Eric Saubert
Saubert is the third tight end on the Seahawks’ roster with an NFL snap under his belt. A 2017 fifth-round pick, Saubert has spent eight seasons in the league primarily as a blocking tight end, including an 11-catch stint with the 49ers in 2024. Saubert has only surpassed 100 yards once in eight seasons and won’t compete with Barner or Arroyo to be a top receiving option for Darnold, but he could stick around as a veteran presence.
4. Marshall Lang
Lang is one of two undrafted rookie tight ends heading to camp with the Seahawks. A five-year player at Northwestern, Lang never reached 200 yards in a season with the Wildcats, recording 48 career catches for 491 yards and four touchdowns. Unless he impresses, Lang is likely just a camp body for the Seahawks.
5. Nick Kallerup
Kallerup is in an identical scenario next to Lang after a five-year Big Ten career of his own. Kallerup played sparingly at Minnesota, recording only five catches over his first four season before posting 117 yards on nine receptions as a fifth-year senior. Kallerup will hope to impress in camp and earn a look from either Seattle or another organization.
