In Grow a Garden, eggs can be used to hatch a surprising variety of pets, not at all limited to those species who are oviparous in the real world. Limited-time events in Grow a Garden frequently bring special eggs that can be hatched into special pets, and the recent Cooking Update is no exception, introducing five unusually food-themed pets to collect.

The Cooking Update isn’t the first Grow a Garden event to introduce new pets, and history tells us that once the event is over you won’t be able to obtain these food-themed companions any more. Each food-themed pet has its own unique trait that procs a beneficial skill at set intervals, so it’s worth trying to get your hands on them while you still can. To find out just how to do that – including your odds of successfully hatching each pet from any given Gourmet Egg – read on below.

How to get a Gourmet Egg in Grow a Garden

Gourmet Eggs are one of the possible rewards for handing over cooked meals to Chris P. Bacon, the quest-giving pig chef NPC who arrived with the Cooking Update. Unfortunately, it’s a randomised reward with nothing much you can do to increase your chances of getting one, other than feeding Chris his requested meals as often as possible and hoping.

Once obtained, a Gourmet Egg needs to be equipped in your inventory and then placed in an open space on your plot. The Gourmet Egg will then behave more or less like any other egg in Grow a Garden, and will hatch without any further intervention from you after the oddly specific real-world wait time of 4 hours and 10 minutes exactly.
