The San Francisco 49ers suffered their first loss of the season in Week 4 when they fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars, but that wasn’t the only issue to come out of the game.

Quarterback Brock Purdy, who returned to the field after missing the previous two weeks with an injury, reportedly aggravated the injury during the game. With San Francisco set to face the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night, Purdy and the rest of the 49ers face a quick turnaround.

Here’s the latest on Purdy’s status for this week.

Is Brock Purdy playing this week?

Purdy is not playing in Week 5.

After San Francisco’s loss to the Jaguars, Purdy felt toe soreness that puts his status this week in question. The 49ers quarterback was listed as did not practice on Monday, as he wouldn’t have been able to participate if San Francisco had held a session.

“Anytime you have a Thursday game, it’s a totally different element,” he said, via ESPN. “So, I’m concerned with anybody who’s not totally healthy at this moment, but we’ll have to get more information on that later today to really have a clue of what to speculate.”

General manager John Lynch added early in the week that Purdy would be questionable for the game.

“We will take every precaution to make sure Brock’s all right,” Lynch said. “I think he is, now can he turn it around on a short week?”

With Purdy sidelined, backup quarterback Mac Jones will make his third start of the season.

Brock Purdy injury update

Purdy suffered a turf toe injury in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, which forced him to miss the next two games. He was able to return to action in Week 4 as the 49ers hosted the Jaguars, but he felt toe soreness after the game.

However, after the 49ers’ game on Sunday, Purdy reportedly felt toe soreness that puts his status for this week in doubt.

After practice on Tuesday, Purdy spoke with the media and said, while he is sore, the injury isn’t as bad as it initially was after Week 1.

Despite the expectation being that he would be questionable, Purdy was outright ruled out for Thursday’s game on Wednesday afternoon.
