Ghost of Yotei builds on the fast-paced combat system introduced in the prequel, Ghost of Tsushima. Apart from the katanas, players will unlock a variety of weapons, including the Yari, Kusarigama, Odachi, and more. Upgrading Atsu’s Katanas and Melee Weapons in Ghost of Yotei
As Atsu’s father was a renowned swordsmith, he passed on his knowledge to her, and so you can upgrade all of her melee arsenal, such as Katanas, the Yari, Kusarigama, and the Odachi, at her father’s forge in her home. Depending on the weapon, you will need a good amount of metals, gun parts, rare metals, etc, to start upgrading the weapons. Here’s how to upgrade the weapons in Ghost of Yotei:
- Travel to Father’s forge at Atsu’s home.
- Select the weapon you need to upgrade.

Upgrading Bows in Ghost of Yotei
Atsu also gets two different bows, namely Hankyu and Yumi, to shoot her enemies from a long range. But the bows can’t be upgraded at her father’s forge, and you need the help of a Bowyer. Therefore, you will run into Ran the Bowyer inside the Yotei’s Shadow Inn in one of your early missions.
After that, she’ll be available at all the Inns and can also spawn randomly each time you set up camp. Then, you can start upgrading it with rare wood, gun parts, and, of course, coins are needed. You can also increase the ammo capacity, as well as customize the bow with armor dyes by dealing with Ran.
Upgrading Bombs in Ghost of Yotei
As you enter the Ishikari plains, one of the main quests will involve you meeting Ina the Bombmaker. Upon completing her quest, you will be able to unlock different types of bombs, namely Scorch Bomb and Blind Bomb. These gears can be upgraded with black powder and Oni Raider’s mask parts to increase their impact and capacity with the help of Ina.
Upgrading Firearms in Ghost of Yotei
As the Portuguese firearms became common during the Edo period, Atsu will soon receive a pistol (Tanzutsu) and rifle (Tanegashima) in the game. After unlocking the rifle during a mission to capture a member of Yotei Six, you will need to save “Matchlock Murata” at the Oshima Coast to get the pistol next.
