Owl House creator Dana Terrace has clapped back at plans to introduce AI user-generated content to Disney+, urging fans to unsubscribe from the service and pirate her show.

Disney CEO Bob Iger sparked controversy when he announced plans to bring short-form user-generated content to the company’s streaming service using generative-AI.

On a recent Disney earnings call, Iger said (as per THR): “The other thing that we’re really excited about, that AI is going to give us the ability to do, is to provide users of Disney+ with a much more engaged experience, including the ability for them to create user-generated content and to consume user generated content – mostly short-form – from others.”

Iger called it “the biggest and the most significant change – from a product perspective, from a technology perspective – since we launched the service in 2019.” But not everyone is in favor of the move.

Terrace kicked off her tirade by sharing an article about the news, writing on X: “PICK UP A PENCIL OR DIE.”

In reference to the proposed features, Terrace said: “‘If you pay us we’ll let you make your own content slop! That we will own!’ YOU CAN DRAW AND WRITE AND POST YOUR OWN SH*T FOR FREE. Bob Iger and his ilk are f***ing ghouls.”

While writing about working without AI, Terrace added: “A ‘regular person’ can already create movies. Regular people create movies and art everyday. Every director, show runner, artist, film maker I know is a regular person, with limited resources, picking up pens, pencils, and styluses to create movies and art. EVERY. DAMN. DAY.”
