The New York Knicks have been in win-now mode for the past few seasons.
With the Knicks franchise earning an Eastern Conference Finals berth last season, there’s no question that the expectation is for the franchise to experience a deeper postseason run this year.
So far, it doesn’t look promising for the Mike Brown-led crew, as they’ve lost nine of their last 13 games and don’t appear to be on the same accord heading into February. What better way to find rhythm than to trade for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo midseason?
CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn recently outlined the Knicks’ dream three-team trade scenario for the 31-year-old future Hall of Famer involving the Portland Trail Blazers.
“If the Blazers are interested in Mikal Bridges as Jake Fischer suggested, we might have a workable Giannis/Knicks outline here,” Quinn stated Saturday.
“I imagine Portland wouldn’t want to give up Bucks pick control in all three years, but maybe something like this (Antetokounmpo and Jerami Grant to the Knicks, Karl-Anthony Towns, Miles McBride, and Pacome Dadiet to the Milwaukee Bucks, and Bridges and Guerschon Yabusele to the Trail Blazers).
While some believe that the Knicks would be better suited holding off on a blockbuster trade centered around Antetokounmpo until the offseason, there’s no doubt New York has the assets to complete a deal in the next few days.
Considering the Knicks are still title contenders this season despite their lackluster play in January, acquiring Antetokounmpo now would allow the franchise to maximize the rest of the 2025-26 campaign and potentially hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy in June.
If New York decided to go all-in on Antetokounmpo ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline, they can’t drag their feet on a potential groundbreaking deal.
