The New York Jets 2025 season didn’t go to plan in every way. There was one positive this offseason, and it was the trade returns the Jets got for Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams.
But their departures, combined with the current defense, have left things a complete mess. The Jets’ defense didn’t record a single interception all year, and the pass rush was terrible. Aaron Glenn’s defense needs to improve for 2026.
Kevin Patra of NFL.com is urging the Jets to fix their “mess” of a defense, using the ammo they got from the Gardner and Williams trades to help them fix their brutal defense.

“The defense, however, is a mess with holes at every level,” Patra writes. “After trading Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner, the Jets have the ammo to add pieces to a defense that ranked 30th in EPA per play allowed (0.09) in 2025.”
The defense last year for the Jets, especially to close out the season, was a disaster. Fixing the holes, which are present in the cornerback, safety, linebacker, pass rusher, and interior defensive line rooms, is a must.
There are needs littered across the roster for the Jets, but the defensive side of the ball is the most important area to address for the Jets this offseason.
Next season cannot come and go without an interception like what happened in 2025. Adding help to the secondary, to the pass rush, or even just better run defenders is a must this offseason for the Jets.

With four picks in the first two rounds and plenty of cap space this offseason, the Jets will have the chance to land multiple talented players.
For the defensive-minded Glenn, improving the defense is a must this offseason. Patra is urging the Jets to focus on defense despite the massive hole at quarterback and wide receiver opposite Garrett Wilson.
Defense should come first, especially with all of the holes littered across the defensive side of the ball.
