One of the most high-profile free agents left on the market is former Green Bay Packers left tackle Rasheed Walker.
Walker hit the open market as one of the best offensive linemen available, but it has been crickets in terms of reports about who he’s drawing interest from.
One reason for the lack of movement with Walker is teams are waiting to see what happens with San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams, who could be traded should he and the Niners fail to agree to a reworked deal that lowers his cap hit.
That rumor comes from Justis Mosqueda of Acme Packing Company.
“There’s offers on the table [for Walker], but aren’t really committable right now, because teams are waiting to see what happens with Williams,” Mosqueda said.
The expectation is Walker is still going to surpass Tennessee Titans left tackle Dan Moore’s annual average, which comes in at $20.5 million. However, teams are unwilling to commit to a third or fourth year on such a deal, Mosqueda adds.
If we project a two-year deal for Walker at an AAV higher than Moore’s, we could see the former Packers starter land a contract that has a total value of around $42 million.
Browns considered favorites for Rasheed Walker
One of the teams Mosqueda revealed as the favorites for Walker are the Cleveland Browns, who have a need at left tackle with Cam Robinson being a free agent.
Mosqueda goes on to add that the Kansas City Chiefs are the favorites to trade for Williams, but both Williams and Walker have multiple teams in the mix.
“Was told the favorites for these guys are CLE (Walker) and KC (Williams, if SF for sure makes him available), but multiple teams are involved for both,” he said.
While the clock is ticking for San Fran and Williams, the Niners aren’t in a huge rush to get something done with him, so that could further delay the process of Walker signing.
