After going down 2-1 to the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, not only did the New York Knicks bounce back, but they’ve been completely dominant on both sides of the basketball. That included the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, earning a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals after sweeping the Philadelphia 76ers.
Entering the year, many viewed the Knicks as one of the favorites in the Eastern Conference, and they certainly look just like that right now. The Knicks are waiting to find out whether they’ll take on the Detroit Pistons or the Cleveland Cavaliers, and will hopefully be waiting for a couple of days to try to get as much rest as possible.
If one thing has been certain recently, the Knicks are clicking on all cylinders, and a lot of that is due to New York’s incredible fan base. In fact, it even frustrated some players on the 76ers roster, as the Madison Square Garden crowd traveled well for the Knicks.
“To be completely honest, we were better when we played them in [Madison Square Garden] this entire season. … It felt louder here for them than it did at the Garden. We got to put a stop to it as a team. Winning these games, that’s what’s going to make our fans louder than theirs. I don’t know how to keep them out, I don’t know the logistics of it. But it does suck, I can’t even lie. It definitely does suck,” Maxey said, H/T Heavy.
This is simply who the Knicks are, especially for a fan base that can drive about an hour and a half away to get to Philadelphia. If the Knicks make the Finals, there are going to be a lot of Knicks fans in the building, no matter where it is.
New York fans love their basketball team, and that doesn’t look like it’s going to change anytime soon, considering how well this team is currently playing.
