Agatha All Along episode 2 sees Teen join Agatha in her hunt for her coven, introducing an array of Marvel witches making their MCU debut.

In episode 1, Agatha was still Agnes, but this time, she was the no-nonsense detective of Westview. It turns out that she was under Wanda Maximoff’s spell after the events of WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2.

The new Disney Plus series saw the return of many familiar faces from Westview, as well as new characters making their MCU debuts, including Joe Locke as Teen and Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal.

There’s a lot more to look forward to in Agatha All Along episode 2. Before we jump into the full recap, be warned: major spoilers ahead!

The Witches’ Road Continues

Following the title “Circle of destiny, unlock your hidden door,” the scene shows Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) preparing to flee in haste before the Salem Seven arrive.

She tells Teen (who is still bound and gagged), “The house is yours, boy. Don’t forget to say hello to the avengers so I can say hello.”

He manages to remove the tape covering his mouth and asks Agatha to take him to the Witches’ Road, the magical path that only wizards can travel.

She tells him there’s no such thing, but he replies, “That’s just what real witches say to keep amateurs away. The road will give you what you want most… if you make it to the end. And I can. I will.”

She wonders how he knows so much about the subject, prompting Teen to make a confession: “I know a ton about you. I’ve been obsessed with you ever since I first read about your time in Salem, one of my favorite eras.”

This is also the reason why he “saved” her from the fate she was under in episode 1 of Agatha All Along.

But Agatha is still not convinced. “If you have the qualities to break a spell of the Scarlet Witch, why do you need the Road?” she says.

He explains that even though he has studied magic extensively, he wants powers, stating, “The Road promises that what is missing awaits you at the end. Power is what I lack. It seems like it’s what you lack, too.”

Adolescence remains a mystery

Agatha thinks it’s too risky. But as she gets up to leave, she’s stopped in her tracks when she spots her missing pendant on the floor and opens it to reveal the lock of hair inside.

“Who are you?” she asks, but when he answers, his name is censored by a mysterious shield covering his mouth.

As fans know, the most popular theory is that Locke’s character is Billy Kaplan, the reincarnated son of the Scarlet Witch – but Episode 2 has yet to reveal his identity.

Agatha urges him to repeat her name and again a squiggle forms on his mouth as he says it.

This “interesting” little mystery is enough to convince Agatha to take the teenager with her… to The Road.

To access it, they will need a coven, which in the MCU world is described as a group of witches “gathered together by mysterious forces of destiny.”

Presentation of Lilia Calderu

As they leave Westview, Agatha explains (in her usual sarcastical manner) a rule of the coven: within a three-mile radius, there will be a gathering of people witchy enough to form a coven.

“All we need is a little talent,” she said. “Even the most helpless witches, when they’re in close proximity, can spark a magical spark.”

Their first stop? A psychic shop, where Agatha wants to test out a certain “talent.” When they enter, they run into Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone).

Lilia knows Agatha’s reputation and doesn’t want to get involved. “I didn’t read your fortune. I read your reputation,” she says. “Witches like you are the reason people think we poison apples, steal children, and eat babies.”

Agatha always has a sense of humor about everything and she chimes in: “Babies are delicious.” Although her speech doesn’t go well, Lilia is at least intrigued when Agatha mentions The Road.

Still, Lilia hesitates: she thinks that Agatha will lead her on the path to steal her powers. But Agatha explains to her that the only way to achieve this would be to destroy her with her magic.

In her closing argument, Agatha points to the eviction notice on Lilia’s door. For now, her life is going nowhere. “Join me and regain your former glory of clairvoyance,” she says.

When Lilia pushes them back, her powers kick in and she manifests a list of four names to make up the clan.

After the electrifying spell, she says, “Three of Pentacles,” a Tarot card that perfectly represents teamwork and collaboration.

She hands the list to Agatha, suggesting that she can leave her alone now. There’s one small problem, though: Lilia’s name is also on it. The teenager gives her Agatha’s address, telling Lilia to arrive at 5:00 p.m.

On her way out, Agatha sees a crow in the parking lot and, for some mysterious reason, it disturbs her.

Complete the coven

Next up on the list, Agatha has another problem with a witch: Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata). When she visits Jen’s Goop-style wellness boutique, it seems the feeling is mutual.

Agatha gets straight to the point: “I’m gathering a coven. I need a potions specialist. We’re going to travel the Road.”

Just like Lilia, she’s not convinced. And just like Lilia, Agatha has a good reason to join the clan.

Apparently, Jen has been trapped by a spell that has deprived her of magic for a century. After some encouragement, Jen reveals that she is desperate to get her powers back.

But she’s not entirely convinced yet, given The Road’s deadly reputation. Teen is there to remind Jen, however, that she’s currently “drowning” in class-action lawsuits after one of her products caused superficial burns on hundreds of customers. A gentle reminder that her options are jail or joining them is all they need for this final push.

They leave Jen with the time, the address, and a lot to think about, and now it’s their last witch’s turn.

In fact, their third visit is to a blood witch, in other words, the child of a witch. In this case, it is Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn), another witch from Marvel comics and the daughter of Launa Wu, the singer of a famous rock band.

The couple heads to the mall to find her, but another animal comes to disturb Agatha, this time a rat. They head to a Hot Topic-style store where Agatha tells Teen a rumor that Alice’s mother was lost on The Witches’ Road.

Once again, the duo work together to intercept their target, staging a fake robbery that leads to Alice’s firing.

As they try to convince her to join them as their “protector”, Alice says that she doesn’t even believe The Road is real and that it was just made up by her mother for a song called “The Ballad”.

Agatha says that if she joins them, she can finally find out what happened to her mother – but she’s apparently not interested, walking away before Teen can give her the address.

Road Summoning

Agatha decides that they don’t need Alice and they head home. On the way, she asks Teen where he’s from, but as soon as he goes into detail, his voice is censored again.

At home, Agatha is back in all her witchy glory and she walks confidently, only to be confronted by a wolf.

She goes back inside and the whole clan arrives – including Alice, who had no trouble finding the address thanks to her past as a cop.

Agatha immediately tries to get going, but they insist they need a green witch. “Who says that?” Agatha remarks, to which Jen replies, “‘The Ballad’. Awaken your earthly and divine power… earth magic is arguably the most important skill set for an attempt at The Road.”

Lilia reveals that there was a fourth entry on the list, only instead of a name, it was a black heart – a reference to Rio Vidal.

After the way things went with Rio, she takes no chances and calls on poor Sharon Davis (Debra Jo Rupp).

Agatha takes them to the basement where they will summon The Road. Once they banish Teen upstairs, they begin by singing “The Ballad”, which should open the portal needed to get there.

But as they sing at the top of their lungs, Teen notices something frightening: seven hooded figures approach the house. It looks like the Salem Seven have arrived, which would explain why Agatha has been so unsettled by the animals all day.

In Agatha All Along, all seven can take animal form, and it seems that she may have known this was a harbinger of their arrival.

The Salem Seven are getting closer

As the Salem Seven close in on the house, Teen barricades herself in while the witches in the basement bicker. Their ballad doesn’t seem to have worked, and they blame it on their respective singing talents.

The creepy characters eventually enter the house, causing Teen to panic. And it’s not hard to see why: for an MCU series, they’re seriously creepy and wouldn’t be out of place in a horror movie.

As the witches argue, they hear knocking upstairs, and then notice a glowing door beneath them that wasn’t there before.

They open it, revealing a mystical staircase. But before they can muster the courage to jump in, Teen runs down the stairs, with the Salem Seven hot on his trail.

He runs into the portal without wasting any time, and the rest of the gang – Sharon included – follows him.

Once the door is closed, the portal closes and they all hesitantly approach what appears to be the witches’ road.
