Liverpool star Alisson Becker has opened up about his determination to stay at Anfield after turning down a transfer to the Saudi Pro League.
Many of Alisson’s former Reds teammates have moved to the Middle East, including former captain Jordan Henderson, along with Gini Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Yet despite the temptation to swap Merseyside for the Middle East, Alisson’s commitment lies with Arne Slot as a new era begins for Liverpool.
“I want to fulfil my contract and finish it here or make a new one. I am very happy here. My family is also happy,” he was quoted as saying. BBC Sports.
“I never got to the point of talking about salaries and things like that. It was just interest, but when you hear the figures that other players are receiving you feel a bit attracted. That’s normal.”
Alisson’s current contract with Liverpool runs until 2027, and the Brazil international has been the Reds’ No.1 since moving to Anfield from Serie A side AS Roma in 2018.
His performances as part of Jürgen Klopp’s side secured a UEFA Champions League title in 2019 and their first Premier League crown in 2020, spread across 264 appearances for the club.
Liverpool are rumoured to be close to a deal to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili as Alisson’s long-term successor, potentially spelling the end of Caoimhin Kelleher’s time at the club.
The Republic of Ireland international has played a back-up role to Alisson in recent years but is looking to move on in search of first-team football before the EPL transfer window closes on August 30.
