Carlo Ancelotti has no doubt that Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior will deliver after a disappointing start to their attacking duo at Real Madrid.
Los Blancos are yet to reach their best in their defence of their La Liga title and host Real Betis on Sunday having taken five points from their opening three games.
Mbappe marked his Real Madrid debut with a goal in the 2-0 UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta, but the French superstar has yet to find the target in three La Liga starts.
Vinicius earned the equaliser from the penalty spot at Las Palmas last season and it is the only time either of the two strikers have scored in the Spanish top flight this season. Rodrygo scored in Real’s 1-1 draw at Real Mallorca, while Federico Valverde and substitutes Brahim Diaz and Endrick were the scorers in a 3-0 win over Real Valladolid.
“I think they play well together,” Ancelotti said at the pre-match press conference. “The problem of scoring is not a detail, because it is obviously important for a striker. You can always play better, faster and show more movement, but the offensive problem is not specific to these games because we score in every game and I am sure we will improve.”
“The problem is not there. With time, Mbappé and Vini Jr will combine better, but also Mbappé with the midfielders. We will not have problems offensively, we have never had any and even less this season when we have the best players in the world.”
One problem that has been pointed out by several observers is that Mbappe and Vinicius both prefer to play on the left of an attacking trio.
“Mbappe and Vini Jr can change positions on the pitch, but we played more with Vini Jr on the left and I think we will continue like that,” Ancelotti added.
