Liverpool took another step forward towards claiming the Premier League title this season with their 1-0 victory against Leicester City on Sunday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold came off the bench to snatch the winner at the King Power Stadium, to relegate Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team, and bring the Reds to within one win of the title.

Liverpool underwent a massive change last year, following Jurgen Klopp’s departure after nine years with Arne Slot appointed as the Reds’ new leader.

Many expected this managerial shift would lead to a transitional season at Liverpool. However, the Reds under Slot are riding high with 79 points from 33 matches, with 24 EPL wins, seven draws and just two losses.

Despite their victories, Liverpool have been on the receiving end of criticism, with many claiming the Reds’ ranking this season comes amid other clubs struggling.

Liverpool’s elimination from all other competitions, including the EFL Cup, UEFA Champions League, and FA Cup did not help their case. But, Slot has backed his squad and aimed a dig at Manchester City, pointing out their position of privilege over other Premier League teams.

What did Arne Slot say about Man City?

Slot dismissed claims of Liverpool’s Premier League title win this season to be an easy one. The Dutch boss reeled off examples of other clubs impressing against top-ranking sides including the Reds.

Slot also pointed out [via GOAL] how City have ‘unlimited amounts of money to spend,’ despite other clubs overperforming, making the Premier League one of the most competitive divisions in the world.

“Is it stronger than the season before or two or three seasons before? That’s up to everyone to debate. Last week we saw Aston Villa, who are seventh, being so good and unfortunate not to go to extra time against Paris Saint-Germain, a team that together with Manchester City have unlimited amounts of money to spend. That could be an example of saying ‘yes, the Premier League is really good at the moment,” he said.

“We also saw what a team Newcastle is and the fact they played so well against us in the League Cup final is not a surprise anymore. What a league we are in. I think it’s stronger than ever.”

City have been known to make record signings over recent years. With their struggles on the pitch and injury woes this campaign, Pep Guardiola’s side brought in Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis in the January transfer window for a reported £187m [$248m].

Several reports also suggest that along with these hefty signings, City will make several new ones in the summer, as a part of a major squab rebuild.
