As expected, the topic of this week’s CNN debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden was at the center of last night’s episode of Real timewith host Bill Maher calling on Biden to drop out of the presidential race following a disastrous performance.
Maher reaffirmed his opinion on whether or not Biden should run for re-election.
“I’ve said it before, I’ll vote for his head in a jar of blue liquid. After last night, it’s time to get the jar,” Maher joked during her panel discussion.
He reminded his audience that he has been saying this for months, but it is now “absolutely obvious” that Biden is going to lose and must be replaced on the Democratic ticket, as it is the “only way” for Democrats to win the election.
“The subsequent snap poll said Trump won 67 to 33,” Maher said. “33, that number comes to mind. Because, do you know what that number is? It is the figure that is always seen very closely: 33, 34, 32 of the people who are always with his party. I mean, this is Mrs. Goebbels in the bunker number… You see her on the right. They used to call them birthers, Tea Party, whatever, MAGA nation, they never move. And now I feel like that’s a third of Democrats who are, like, going to stick with this guy and regret it.”
“He’s going to lose. I said it nine months ago. I’m going to say it again tonight. And now it seems like it’s so obvious,” Maher continued.
The HBO host then queued up a clip from the debate in which Biden said his administration “finally beat Medicare.”
“It reminded me of when Mike Tyson was knocking guys out in 90 seconds. It was like two minutes into the debate and I was like, ‘Oh, this election is over. ’ That was like a scandal,” Maher said.
“I feel like the rationale for Biden running has always been ‘I’m the only one who can beat him.’ Now I think it’s the other way around. I think he’s the only one who could lose to him,” she continued. “I keep hearing all day long these Democrats make this case. Like, ‘We can’t abandon Joe Biden.’ And me? I feel abandoned. I feel abandoned. I have no one to vote for.”
Several top Democrats still supporting Biden after the debate include former President Barack Obama, who issued a statement Friday.
“Bad debate nights happen. Believe me, I know,” Obama said. “But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary people his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will deliver it to the American people directly, and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. That didn’t change last night, and that’s why the stakes are so high in November.”
However, the editorial board of the New York Times and other liberal media outlets have begun calling for Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.
“Biden has been an admirable president. Under his leadership, the nation has prospered and begun to address a number of long-term challenges, and the wounds opened by Trump have begun to heal. But the greatest public service Biden can perform now is to announce that he will not continue running for re-election.” The Times editorial board wrote on Friday.
