With the Black Ops 6 beta now in full focus, here’s a comprehensive look at the best controller settings to get you into the action quickly. From optimal sensitivity to mobility assists, here’s everything you need.
Much like previous years, Black Ops 6 offers players dozens of settings to tweak. While it allows for a very precise experience, tailored to your exact preferences, it can often be difficult to determine what’s best.
With dozens of options to choose from, you have plenty to get your head around. Whether it’s the field of view sliders, motion blur, your UI, or even the way you aim, there are plenty of tricks at your fingertips to get the most out of the settings.
So, if you’re playing with a controller and looking to get a leg up on your competition, here’s our breakdown of the best settings in Black Ops 6.
Optimizing your controller settings should be the first thing you do when starting Black Ops 6.

How to Find and Test Your Controller Settings in Black Ops 6
First, you need to know where to look to change your controller settings. Simply press the Start/Pause button on your controller to bring up a secondary menu on the right side of your screen. From there, tab over to the settings gear and you’ll find the Controller option two spaces down.
Press X on PlayStation or A on Xbox to select the controller settings menu and you’re ready to race.

First up, we have the input settings, which for the most part are personal preferences. If you’ve been playing FPS games a certain way for years, there’s no need to change now. But if you’re looking for a clean slate, we’ve got some good options.
The Tactical Button Layout preset is where you start. In short, this swaps the inputs for crouching and melee. This means you can slide or even go prone without having to move your thumb away from the aiming analog stick, a very important change.
Next, we recommend swapping L1/R1 or LB/RB with L2/R2 or LT/RT. While using the proper triggers may feel more tactile, if your goal is to be as competitive as possible, pressing the shorter buttons makes things much easier. This reduces overall input time, because rather than sliding a trigger down, you’re quickly pressing a single button.
Next up is disabling both the trigger effect and controller rumble. While this is a nifty gimmick for campaign play, having resistance in your triggers for multiplayer or zombies is completely unviable. This won’t come into play if you followed our previous step, though. And as for rumble, it can be a bit distracting with everything else going on in a given match, so disabling it can help you stay focused on the game.
ActivisionFinding the right sensitivity can take some time as you experiment and become comfortable.
When it comes to sensitivity, it really comes down to personal preference. Some professional players use a higher setting to quickly turn around and aim at targets, while others opt for a lower setting to maintain accuracy above all else. It’s often best to choose a setting in between, so we recommend a value between 4 and 6 for your horizontal and vertical stick sensitivity.
- Button layout preset: Tactical
- Horizontal stick sensitivity: 4-6
- Vertical stick sensitivity: 4-6
- Simplified controls: Disabled
- Ping Bumper: Disabled
- Reverse L1/R1 or LB/RB with L2/R2 or LT/RT: On
- Stick Layout Preset: Default
- Controller Vibration: Disabled
- Trigger effect: Disabled
Dead zone entry
Deadzones essentially change the amount of movement required on an analog stick before the game responds. In other words, a higher deadzone setting means you’ll have to move your analog stick further to see your character move around in the game. Conversely, the lower the deadzone setting, the faster you’ll move around in the game.
So the best idea is to reduce these settings as much as possible until you are comfortable. In most cases, setting them to zero is optimal, in order to completely remove any delay between your reactions and what you see on the screen.
However, if your controller is finicky, especially with stick drift, you should increase your deadzone settings until it no longer moves on its own.

Best Field of View Settings
Finally, last but not least is the Field of View setting. The higher you set the Field of View, the more you can see on the screen. By lowering this setting, you are making your field of view larger, meaning you are closer to your weapon, but you are seeing less of the map at any given time.
So, a higher FOV will always be optimal, but increasing it too high for your setup can have negative effects. If you’re playing on a big screen, increasing the FOV too high can make it difficult to see enemies in the distance. Try to find a middle ground of around 110 in the FOV settings.
