Bobby Lashley could return to MMA.
Earlier this month, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp announced that the longtime WWE star’s contract was expiring.
Speaking on the The Bo and the Others ShowLashley has confirmed that a new chapter in his career is indeed about to begin, and that a return to MMA is possible, even at age 48.
“I do everything,” Lashley said (via MMA Fights). “I look at it this way: First of all, YOLO, you only live once, but I have plenty of gas in the tank. I’m in great shape. I feel good. I’m motivated. I’m rested.
“Wrestling, yes. Boxing, yes, MMA, yes. Theater, yes. Everything, yes. But I have a lot of different things going on right now.”
Lashley competed in MMA from 2008 to 2016, posting a professional record of 15 wins and 2 losses. The most notable years of his MMA career came in the Strikeforce and Bellator cages, where he defeated veterans such as Jason Guida, Bob Sapp, Wes Sims and James Thompson.
His only losses came against future UFC talent Chad Griggs in 2010, and in the first of his two fights against James Thompson in 2012. His MMA career took him far from home, to India.
It’s unclear where Lashley will fight if he returns to MMA. He would likely be considered too old for promotions like the UFC, Professional Fighters League, Bellator and ONE Championship, but could be invited to Japan for a fight at RIZIN, which has deals with other aging combat sports stars like Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
As for Lashley’s interest in boxing, he claims to have already received an offer from a promotion.
“A boxing company called me and offered me a legitimate fight,” Lashley said. “So we’re in talks with them, so I’m training boxing. I love boxing. MMA is a possibility. It just depends on [what offers come].
“Wrestling, I still want to wrestle,” he added. “I love wrestling and the fans write to me every day: ‘When are you coming back? Where are you going? I don’t care where you’re going, we want to be there for you.’ So I love the fans.”
