The Denver Broncos are in the AFC Championship game and will get to face off against the New England Patriots for a chance to play in the Super Bowl.
While Bo Nix is out, and Jarrett Stidham is in the lineup for Denver, there is some different quarterback news that’s very exciting.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Broncos have announced that Hall of Famer and Broncos legend John Elway will be the team’s honorary captain for the AFC Championship game.
Broncos to have John Elway as an honorary captain for AFC Championship
“John Elway, who led the Broncos to seven AFC Championship Game victories as a Hall-of-Fame quarterback and GM, will serve as Denver’s honorary captain for Sunday’s conference championship game against the Patriots,” Schefter reports.
Elway will be on the field along with the other Broncos captains at the start of the game, and will then hopefully watch Stidham and the Broncos come out on top over the Patriots.
The legendary Hall of Fame quarterback spent his entire 16-year NFL career with the Broncos and put together nine Pro Bowl seasons, with two Super Bowl championships at the end of his career.

He was a franchise legend, and helped lead the Broncos’ offense from the mid 1980’s until 1998 when he retired following a Super Bowl, and Super Bowl MVP in his 16th season.
Elway will be in-house for the biggest game in Denver since the 2016 AFC Championship, which was also Broncos-Patriots. Though this time, the Broncos won’t be relying on their starter, and instead hoping for Stidham to have the best game of his professional career.
It’s a very interesting matchup, and the game’s festivities will begin with Elway on the field as an honorary captain for a Broncos team hoping for an AFC Championship game miracle.
