Bronny James is officially a Laker and has already chosen his threads for the next NBA season.
The 19-year-old USC product joins his father LeBron James in Los Angeles, creating the first father-son duo in NBA history. Like his father, James’ debut will be highly anticipated this fall.
Fortunately for Lakers fans, they already have an idea of what James will look like in a Lakers uniform. The rookie picked his number on Friday and will wear No. 9. His jersey will also say James Jr. on the back.

Why did James choose number 9? Does it have any meaning for him or his father? The Jugo Mobile answers these questions below.
Why does Bronny James wear number 9 on the Lakers?
James will wear number 9 with the Lakers during the 2024-25 season. He will also have James Jr.’s name on the back.
The 19-year-old did not explain the reason for his jersey choice, but it could be a change from No. 6, the number he wore at USC. The number 6 is also the one his father wore on the Miami Heat and briefly on the Lakers.
James wore No. 0 in high school while at Sierra Canyon, but Jalen Hood-Schifino currently has that jersey with the Lakers.
Not counting James, there have been 15 players in Lakers history who have worn No. 9. Sterling Brown most recently wore it in 2023. Here is a list of the 15 players who have worn the number.
