The Chicago Bulls are falling back to earth after a 6-1 start, losing their last three games. With the way the chips are falling on the trade block, Marc Eversley may be inclined to make a move sooner rather than later, before a fourth-straight season is lost.
Following the Dallas Mavericks’ Nico Harrison firing, Chicago native Anthony Davis is officially on the trade block. The Mavs essentially admitted the Luka Doncic trade was a failure. Davis can’t go on knowing he’s anything but the franchise player, and that he’s seen as a mistake.
CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn believes the best fit for Davis is the Golden State Warriors, but he ranked the hometown Bulls as AD’s second-best landing spot. To land the Prodigal Brow, Quinn believes Chicago should offer the longest-tenured Bull in talks, Coby White.
“The Bulls have played so well without Coby White that they could probably justify including him in the trade and fully handing the backcourt over to Josh Giddey, Tre Jones and Ayo Dosunmu. Having Davis around would go a long way for the development of Matas Buzelis and Noa Essengue. The Bulls have their picks and they have a bunch of expiring contracts. This is doable,” Quinn wrote.
With the NBA back on NBC, Chicago owes the Association relevance, for nostalgia’s sake. Davis’s hometown angle is an interesting one, and it’s something he has plenty of reference on, having been a teammate and friend of LeBron James from their time on Team USA.
White has been a consistent presence for the Bulls, but he’s not been part of a successful era. It’d sting, but these types of splits happen under these circumstances. White deserves a chance to expand upon two breakout years from 2023-2025 and join a less crowded backcourt. Chicago looks to be in good hands with Josh Giddey and Ayo Dosunmu at the guard spots over the long term.
The Bulls could use a defensive presence like Davis, who is one of the best defensive bigs in the league when motivated.
The Mavs won’t get the most out of him, but returning home could give Davis a different kind of motivation.
