The preliminary card of the first Canadian card since UFC 297 went well for residents of the icy north, as four of their five competitors came away with victories.
The night was not a smashing success from the start. Jamey-Lyn Horth kicked the night off with a split decision win over Ivana Petrovic in a close fight which could have gone either way.
Chad Anheliger then dropped a decision to Cody Gibson in which he was embarrassed by allowing 12 minutes and 35 seconds of control time to the American.
Serhey Sidey then won another split decision, but the Canadian fighter turned the dial all the way up.
Charles ‘Air’ Jourdain lit the air in the arena on fire in his bantamweight debut when he submitted Victor Henry with his signature guillotine choke.
That set the stage for an early ‘Fight of the Night’ contender in the featured prelim, between bantamweight legend Pedro Munhoz and Aiemann Zahabi, the brother of famous Canadian coach Firas Zahabi, which the Canadian also won with the most impressive showing of his career.
Those wins, especially the final two, set the stage for a main card with only three Canadians: Mike Malott, Marc-Andre Barriault, and Jasmin Jasudavicius.
At the least it’s mathematically impossible for the home team to end the night with a losing record now.
