The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed center Tristan Thompson to a one-year contract, according to Adrien WojnarowskiThis upcoming season will be Thompson’s 11th of 14 NBA seasons with the Cavs.
Over his career, Thompson averaged nine points, eight rebounds and one assist per game. He was also the backup center on the legendary 2015-16 Cavs team that came back from a 3-1 deficit to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.
Thompson brings experienced leadership to the Cavs, something they desperately need. The Cavs are a young team, with a lot of talent. They need someone to help them focus that talent so they don’t lose sight of what they want: another title for the Cavaliers franchise.
And since Thompson has played for the Cavs for nearly 80 percent of his career and was on the team that brought the Cavs their only title, he will command respect. He may not be the best player, but he is a veteran who has been to the playoffs multiple times. He could be the key to making the Cavs a true powerhouse.
