The Boston Celtics’ frontcourt production has been pleasantly surprising during the first half of the 2025-26 season.
Neemis Queta is enjoying the most productive season of his young NBA career on both ends of the floor, as the Utah State product is averaging 10.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game.
Despite being at a disadvantage from a lateral movement standpoint, Luka Garza has been a solid reserve with the Jayson Tatum-less Western Conference squad (7.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 61.4% from the field and 51.2% from beyond the arc.
Still, former Detroit Pistons superstar Isiah Thomas believes that adding an electric former Los Angeles Lakers standout forward would help the Celtics boast a more dynamic frontcourt going forward.
“I think there are four teams in the East that, if they make a trade for AD (Anthony Davis), I think they become the favorite,” Thomas stated last Thursday.
“And one of them I’m gonna throw out here is probably not being talked about as much, but if Boston makes a trade for AD, the way Boston is playing right now, and Jaylen Brown…I mean, Boston right now has a chance to elevate to that, you know, championship level again if they were to pull off a trade.”
Would Davis help the Celtics’ frontcourt ascend to a level it hasn’t sniffed in years? Absolutely, but with the 10-time All-Star’s recent injury diagnosis, the Celtics shouldn’t expect a trade to occur this year.
Essentially, Davis is dealing with a hand injury that could sideline him for an extended period, which significantly reduces the Celtics’ chances of partnering with the Dallas Mavericks to complete a blockbuster deal.
More importantly, why would the Celtics feel comfortable trading for an injury-prone player who continues to give contending franchises reasons to avoid him on the trade market? Queta and Garza are nowhere near Davis’ level talent-wise, but at least they’re far more dependable from an availability vantage point.
A Davis and Celtics trade isn’t viable at this point in time.
