Newcastle United have opened talks with Crystal Palace over a possible £60 million (US$77 million) transfer for highly-rated England defender Marc Guehi, according to sources. PA News Agency.
Guehi’s former club Chelsea could benefit from the deal due to a 20% resale clause included in his contract by Chelsea’s previous management.
If the sale goes through as per the reported transfer fee details, Chelsea could earn £12 million (US$15.4 million).

Marc Guehi’s ambitious signing for Newcastle
The Magpies have shown keen interest in Guehi over the past week, holding initial talks with Palace.
Guehi, who made 29 appearances for Palace last season and was a key player for England in the Euro 2024 final, is valued at more than £60m ($77m) by Palace.
Newcastle will hope their proactive approach will give them an edge over their competitors as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
Newcastle finished seventh in the Premier League last season, missing out on European competition. The club have signed a number of players this summer, including Chelsea full-back Lewis Hall, goalkeepers Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy, Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly and Serbian youngster Miodrag Pivas.
Despite these additions, Newcastle had to balance their books to comply with Premier League sustainability regulations, which was achieved in part by selling midfielder Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and striker Yankuba Minteh to Brighton for a combined £65 million (US$83.4 million).
Newcastle to sign potential new striker
In addition to Guehi, Newcastle are close to signing 20-year-old Sheffield United striker William Osula. This move is especially crucial as current striker Callum Wilson is likely to miss the start of the season due to a back injury.
Head coach Eddie Howe, who is currently with the team in Japan for a pre-season friendly against Yokohama F. Marinos, is hopeful of making a breakthrough before the new season begins in two weeks.
