Last year wasn’t the best year for Dalvin Cook and the New York Jets, so it’s understandable that the veteran guard is still a little frustrated by the experiment gone wrong.
Cook, a four-time Pro Bowl selection with the Minnesota Vikings, signed with the Jets 12 months ago, hoping to make a Super Bowl run alongside future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Of course, circumstances changed dramatically when Rodgers tore his left Achilles tendon four times on offense in the 2023 season opener.
After joining the Dallas Cowboys last week, Cook, 29, answered a question about his time with the Jets while speaking to reporters.
“I don’t really want to talk about the situation. When Aaron went to the Play 4, I think everything was a little different. There was no contingency plan. We didn’t know that. Aaron went to the Play 4, and we were like, what do we do? That’s just the way it is,” the 2017 second-round draft pick said.
Cook was used sparingly by the Jets, taking a backseat to Breece Hall. He played just 202 offensive snaps, carrying 67 times for 214 yards before being released in Week 18.
“Last season, I didn’t really get to start training until almost the end, towards the end of the offseason, because I had to rehab my shoulder a lot,” said Cook, who never seemed to find his legs again during his short stint with Gang Green.
The Jets finished 7-10 overall, with Cook averaging just 3.2 yards per carry. He did not score a touchdown.
