Daniel Cormier thinks it’s time for Michael Chandler to move on.
Following the latest cancellation of his highly anticipated fight with Conor McGregor, Cormer offered advice on Chandler’s next move.
The UFC Hall of Famer believes McGregor could finish fighting and believes Chandler needs to get back in the cage.
“Michael Chandler still needs to fight,” Cormier said. “Michael Chandler, it seems like he needs Conor McGregor, but I don’t know if that’s the case. When you talk to Mike, his goals haven’t changed. He still wants to be world champion. I don’t know if even if he wins, this fight brings him closer to being world champion.
“He has some things to weigh in the future because I don’t know if he should wait any longer. I think it’s time to put this behind us and I think the overwhelming feeling is that (McGregor) is done. I thought Conor McGregor was coming back because to me, Conor McGregor is a fighter. I know, skill for skill, the Conor McGregor of 2015 is not the same guy. But I thought the star was still the same. I just don’t know if he wants to fight. Especially now.”
Some believe McGregor’s injury could be minor and that he will be ready to return to action in August or September.
However, at 38 years old, Chandler is running out of time to reach the top of the pision.
The pay-per-view fight was to be McGregor’s first appearance in the Octagon since July 10, 2021. The fight ended with McGregor suffering a horrific leg fracture after a kick from Dustin Poirier.
Meanwhile, Chandler has not fought since November 2022, when he suffered a submission loss to Poirier.
