DC Arkham Asylum TV series are no longer advancing on Max.
According VarietyA person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the news that the show has been officially cancelled.
A new project set in Gotham’s infamous asylum could be in development in the future, the inpidual says, but nothing has been announced.
The series was announced in 2020 and Antonio Campos joined as writer and showrunner in 2022. It would be set in the world of Matt Reeves. The Batman.
Terrence Winter was originally attached to write and executive produce when the series was set to focus on the Gotham Police Department, but he left the project in November 2020 due to creative differences. Giri/Haji Creator Joe Barton was then hired to write the story, but Warner Bros. eventually parted ways with him as well.
Reeves revealed in a 2022 interview that the Gotham PD show would not be taking place, but that the story had “started to evolve” into what became the Arkham Asylum show, which he described as something like “a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham.”
After Campos joined, it was announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran would take over DC Studios and launch a rebooted film and television universe. In a series of social media posts in December 2023, Gunn said the show was still in development, but would be set in the new DCU rather than The Batman universe.
As for Reeves The Batman World, Max will premiere his crime drama series The Penguin starring Colin Farrell in September. Reeves is also working on Batman Part IIwhich will be released in October 2026.
He Green Lantern The Max TV series is also moving forward, but it was announced that it will be an HBO original due to a new content rebranding effort.
