Chromebooks come in many shapes and sizes, and one popular form factor is a 2-in-1 convertible. They are exactly what their name suggests. These are full-fledged laptops with touchscreens that can be folded into tablet form. Although many like its functionality, some don’t use the touchscreen at all and want to turn it off. Fortunately, there is a way to disable the Chromebook touchscreen, and here’s how to do it.

The only, fairly simple, way to disable a Chromebook’s touchscreen is to turn off a Chrome flag using Google Chrome. Here’s how to do it.
- Launch Chrome, type chrome://flags in the address bar and press the button Enter key.

- Click the search bar at the top and type “debug keyboard shortcuts”.

- Click on the Debugging keyboard shortcuts drop-down list, then select Enabled.

- When finished, click Reboot.

- Then you can turn off the touch screen using the Shift + Launcher + T keyboard shortcut on Chromebook.

- Your Chromebook’s touchscreen should now be disabled. You can use the same shortcut to activate it.

Why should I turn off my Chromebook’s touchscreen?
Maybe because you don’t use it much? Or you have an older Chromebook that’s triggering missed keystrokes. These are all valid reasons to disable your Chromebook’s touchscreen.
Does touchscreen consume more battery on Chromebook?
Having a touchscreen uses a little battery, but it’s negligible. When the touchscreen is on, the screen expects you to touch it and so the digitizer is always active, detecting touch and sipping battery power.
Do all Chromebooks have a touchscreen?
Not all of them have a touch screen. Usually, Chromebooks costing between $500 and $700 with the 2-in-1 “label” have them.
I’m experiencing ghost keys on my Chromebook. What should I do?
Ghost keys are rare on modern Chromebooks and may appear on older models due to age or damage. If you are facing ghost touches, disable the touchscreen as shown above. If you use the touchscreen often, you may want to visit a trusted repair shop to diagnose the problem.
