If the Dallas Cowboys aren’t stirring up bad press, are they really making headlines? That seems to be the story lately, especially with the ongoing Micah Parsons contract drama.
Parsons has dominated NFL chatter this week after the disgruntled linebacker made it clear on social media that he wants out of Dallas.
But according to FS1’s Colin Cowherd, Parsons might just be one piece of a bigger Cowboys problem. His latest gripe? Head coach Brian Schottenheimer’s wardrobe.
During Monday’s press conference at Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, Schottenheimer addressed the media wearing his visor backward — and Cowherd couldn’t let it slide.
“You know, I don’t like backward hats. What’s worse is a backward visor… That’s a two-win team. I’m taking away four wins. That’s awful. That’s so bad,” Cowherd said.
The longtime radio and TV host, notorious for his quirky takes on presentation and leadership, said Schottenheimer’s look wasn’t just a bad choice for him — it reflected poorly on the entire franchise.

“When you sit in front of a podium, you’re representing the Cowboys. You’re representing Bank of America. You’re representing a $12 billion corporation. I think you gotta do better as a head coach than a visor backwards,” Cowherd said.
This isn’t Cowherd’s first shot at Schottenheimer, either. Weeks ago, he predicted that the Cowboys would quickly regret the hire.
“Brian Schottenheimer is a one-and-done,” Cowherd said. “Jerry will know by Thanksgiving he made a huge mistake. Forget the fact that Philadelphia and Washington will probably blow them out in the division twice. ‘One and done’ happens all the time now.
“I think Dallas is going to be humiliated on a lot of Sundays.”
Hot takes are Cowherd’s specialty, and this one fits the bill. But he’s not entirely wrong that Schottenheimer was never a high-profile hire and wasn’t on anyone else’s radar. For a franchise already buried in controversy and scrutiny, even a backward visor is enough to fuel the fire.
