Harry Kane became England’s all-time leading scorer after scoring his 60th and 61st goals in his 87th cap as the Three Lions sealed qualification for Euro 2024 with a 3-1 win over Italy.
The Bayern Munich forward tied with Wayne Rooney at the top of England’s all-time goalscoring list at the end of 2022, when he scored from a penalty in England’s World Cup quarter-final loss to France .
Kane’s momentous England record goal came on March 23, 2023, when he converted a penalty to put Gareth Southgate’s team 2-0 up in Italy in their first Euro 2024 qualifier.
The 30-year-old will have many more opportunities to extend his lead at the top of the charts. His form in Munich in his first season in the Bundesliga stands him in good stead in adding to his record as England prepare for the tournament in Germany in 2024.

The record for most goals by the England men’s team belongs to Harry Kane.
Wayne Rooney scored 53 goals for England in 120 appearances. Kane has 63 goals after 90 appearances.
Rooney and Kane are the only English players in history to have surpassed the 50-goal threshold for the national team.
The only other English players with 40 or more are Bobby Charlton (49), Gary Lineker (48), Jimmy Greaves (44) and Michael Owen (40).

Another familiar name, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, completes the top 10, made even more impressive by the fact that he played in central midfield.

Harry Kane England goals
Kane scored on his first appearance for England, in a 4-0 win over Lithuania in 2015. But it was in 2017 that he began scoring at a consistent rate at international level, scoring seven goals in six appearances.
That form continued in 2018 and during the World Cup in Russia, with Kane scoring eight goals in 12 games during that year. Six of them came on the World Cup’s biggest stage, when England reached the semi-final.
He maintained his goalscoring form and actually increased his total in 2019 to 12 goals, adding to his career tally during England’s Euro and Nations League qualifying campaigns.
The 2020 calendar year, which was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, saw him go goalless in a limited schedule (just six games). He but he bounced back with a career-high 16 goals in 16 games in 2021.
A measure of how prolific Kane has been is evidenced by the ranking of England’s all-time leading scorers, ordered by goals per appearance. His 0.69 goals per game played is well above the other scorers of the Premier League era.

When did Harry Kane break the England record?
Kane made history when he converted the penalty in England’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy on 23 March 2023. It proved to be the decisive goal in a 2-1 victory.
Declan Rice had already put the Three Lions ahead and England were awarded a penalty just before half-time. Despite their heartbreaking last-minute missed penalty in the World Cup quarter-final against France, there was no doubt who would take the penalty kick.
Kane buried his penalty past Gianluigi Donnarumma before heading towards the corner flag in celebration, each of his teammates congratulating him on his historic feat.
